Full Domain Names

Characters you can choose from

A Domain Name is made up of two parts, your organisation name and a top/second level suffix i.e. organisationname.gov.uk.

The characters you can choose from:

• 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0
• Hyphen (-)
• An address must begin and end with an alphanumeric character. Punctuation characters must not be placed together.
• Domain Names MUST be between 3 and 60 characters in length, excluding the Domain suffix.
• Domain Names can contain letters, numbers or hyphens (-), NO spaces or other characters are allowed.

Choosing what top/second level suffix to use

The suffix is the end part of your Domain Name - i.e. organisation.gov.uk. Please click on the relevant top level name for full requirements / restrictions.

Sub-Domain Names

A Sub-Domain Name does not form part of a Registered Domain Name, therefore the rules laid down by the Registrar do not apply.

The GTNet Sub-Domain Management Service allows you to use a Sub-Domain Name of the gtnet.gov.uk Domain Name, giving you an email address in the format of user@department.gtnet.gov.uk.
