GTNET Dial
Global Roaming Checklist
In order to make your Internet access while overseas as trouble
free as possible, we have compiled the following list of points
for the GTNet Dial Global Roaming service which may be useful.
We recommend you print these out before you leave and take them with you.
- Note the access numbers for any
International PoPs that you may
wish to use. (We suggest you have some alternatives to any single main number
you plan to use). Check the numbers immediately before you travel in case there
have been any changes.
- You need to edit the name of the "SMTP server" used by your
e-mail program when you roam between countries. The default entry
that you should see in your software is "smtp.gtnet.gov.uk".
Change this to smtp.country code.uudial.com
where country code is the two letter code shown against each
country in the International PoPs list.
For example:
In Germany, the "SMTP Server" entry in your e-mail program should read:
smtp.de.uudial.com
When you return to the UK, edit the entry to read:
smtp.uk.uudial.com
- Check that you can successfully log-in to the UK network
before you travel, to verify the correct set-up of your computer.
You may also wish to consider making a very quick international
call to the GTNet PoP that you plan to use.
- Take the instruction manual and technical support number for
your modem with you.
- Take your Operating System installation CD, e.g. Windows 95,
Windows NT, etc (it may be necessary to install new drivers).
- The GTNet Dial Technical support team can be
reached internationally on +44 (0)870 870 6701. UK Support hours for
this service are Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm, Saturday 9am to 6pm.
