| About the GTNet Global Roaming Service |
 |
 |
 |
GTNet Dial’s Global Roaming service means that your GTNet Internet
service can be just a local call away - even from the other side of the world enabling you
to take your Internet connection wherever your business takes you. |
Roaming with GTNet couldn’t be easier - You can dial one of a number of
Points of Presence (POP's), each
strategically located in major population centres around the world and access your
GTNet Dial account, while avoiding the large cost of International calls.
All PoPs are centrally managed enabling us to deliver the same quality of service and
performance that our customers have come to expect here in the UK.
Global Roaming with GTNet Dial is available to all our customers and charged on a
pay-by-use basis, so if you don’t use it you simply don’t pay for it. Compared with the
cost of international telephone calls back to the UK it offers customers significant cost
savings and added convenience.

| Activating A Dial Account For Global Roaming |
 |
 |
In order to ensure that Global Roaming charges are not incurred without your
authorisation, all GTNet Dial customers need to formally request for their account to be
activated. By default, Global Roaming is not activated.
To request global roaming activation please contact the GTNet Customer Services team on
0870 870 6703. For your reassurance, please ensure that
this is done at least 48 hours before you are due to travel.
As the service is only charged on those occasions when you use the facility, it costs you
nothing to request Global Roaming. If you think that one day you might want to use your
GTNet Dial account when abroad, it makes sense to set the account up today so that you
don't forget later.

| How to use the GTNet Global Roaming Service |
 |
 |
Once your account has been activated, you will be able to connect to the GTNet Internet
service via any one of the following PIPEX's global Points of Presence:
Before leaving the UK, please take a moment to visit the Global Roaming checklist which
will give you full instructions regarding any changes you may need to make to your GTNet
Dial set-up.
Once connected you can send and retrieve your email, send and receive files, browse the
web and generally use all of the same services that you would at home.
The exceptions to this are:
- You will need to make a small change to your email program to SEND email while roaming;
- You will be unable to access NEWSGROUPS while roaming.
If you want to SEND email when roaming, you will need to make a small
change to your email program relevant to each country. This involves changing the name of
the "SMTP Server" address within your email program. See the
checklist
for details of how to do this.
Please note - You do not need to make any changes in order to RECEIVE email
while roaming.
The GTNet Dial news server can only be accessed by connecting to the Internet via UK PoPs;
it will not be accessible when connecting through other GTNet PoPs. If you require access
to news while abroad, you will need to point your news-reading software to another news
machine which will grant you access.
The Global Roaming facility is charged on a pay-by-use basis, with a minimum charge for
any month in which it is used. This means that, unlike your GTNet Dial subscription which
offers you completely unlimited use for a flat fee, Global Roaming charges will be variable,
the actual amount depending upon how much you use the service.
For any month in which you roam:
There is a minimum charge of £5 + VAT - This
will cover up to two hours spent on-line in that month.
For any time spent on-line over two hours, you will be charged
£2.50 + VAT per hour,
which will be charged in 6 minute increments at 25p + VAT.
There are no standing charges for months in which you don't roam.
Charges are calculated for each calendar month. If your overseas trip
extends over more than one calendar month, you will be charged at least
the minimum charge of £5.00 for each month that you roam. (Note: a new
month starts on the 1st of the month, at 12.00 midnight in local time for
the country you are in.)
A full breakdown of usage will be available for customers who exceed two
hours on-line in any month.
Charges for the service are invoiced monthly in arrears.
While the Network that undepins GTNet Dial is continually expanding in global coverage and
improving the performance, the maximum modem speed supported will vary from country to
country. Each International PoP currently supports modem speeds up to at least 28.8 Kbps.
ISDN is not currently supported by the Global Roaming service.
PIPEX cannot guarantee the availability of any PoP, though in all cases
we will endeavour to give a minimum of one month's warning of any
planned PoP closure. Access numbers are also liable to change from time to
time. Please refer to the International PoP list above for the current details
before you travel.
Support will continue to be provided from the UK. If you encounter
problems accessing the service while you're abroad, you will need to
contact GTNet Technical Support during UK support hours. Our offices
in other countries will not have access to your personal information,
and so will not be in a position to help.
In order to minimise the risk of you encountering any problems while
away from home, we have provided a checklist
that you can print out before you leave the UK.
